SPANISH DELIGHT
On a recent trip to Denver I visited El Five, a swanky Spanish-themed restaurant in the swanky Highlands neighborhood. It sits atop a five story building and the restaurant’s primary art piece is the Denver skyline.
The first thing I noticed on the menu was the variety of paellas, but at 10 at night with breakfast plans early the next morning, all I could do was gaze longingly at it.
From a graphic design perspective this menu is exquisite.
Moroccan lamb sausage with hummus, feta cheese, fava beans, pea tendrils, lemon & mint
Monkey 47 gin with orange slices, cranberries, and Fever Tree Tonic Water (left).
I always choose food in order to pair with the wine I already selected.
On an unusually hot day in September, however, my brother Alex and I weren’t in the mood for wine, so we chose from El Five’s European-styled selection of gins, served with herbs or fruit and an ice ball in a big wine glass, with a nice tonic water served on the side: you decide how much tonic your gin needs.
In the next post I’ll describe El Five’s sumptuous wine list.
