FOXEN
Foxen, the most remote winery we visited, is one of the iconic standards of Santa Barbara.
This is the winery made famous in Sideways, the hilarious 2004 wine country romp that damaged the reputation of Merlot for many years! Fortunately Merlot has pretty much regained its respect, and any lingering attitudes are mostly funny.
Foxen has two tasting rooms, one more hip and trendy, and the second one, fondly referred to as the shack.
It’s worth visiting both for comparison. Foxen has a Syrah that will cause you to take a moment and soak in the essence of a beautifully crafted wine; their Chardonnay is a work of balanced wonder, oh and their Super Tuscan styled wines… so much to discover.
They really do showcase the range of amazing wines that can be made in the Santa Barbara wine country.
